Three-time Global Alliance for Africa Kilimanjaro hiker Kara Richardson Whitely will be visiting Chicago on book tour. Her memoir Gorge, My Journey Up Kilimanjaro at 300 Pounds, was published by Seal Press earlier this month. So far, the reviews have been awesome. Redbook magazine called it one of five "Fabulous, Possibly Life-Changing Books" and Backpacker said her story as a plus-size adventurer is "as inspiring as it is refreshing."
Wild author Cheryl Strayed said Gorge was, "Fearlessly honest and powerfully intelligent, I was moved and inspired by every page of this beautiful book."
5-8 p.m. Friday, April 17: Soko Space, Fine Arts Building at 410 S. Michigan Avenue
This is a more casual, happy hour event to talk with Kara, hear her story and talk about your own adventures.
