Bringing Good Habits From 2020 Into 2021
This week I’m working to pivot my thought process to renewal. The changing of the year and the slowly lengthening days are such a great source of energy! Resolutions aren’t the right fit for everyone--especially if they’re trying to make a lasting change--but I’m still using this opportunity to think about what I want for the coming year. In 2021, I’m planning to use the one lesson I’m most grateful for from 2020--the lesson to be grateful for the small things.
It’s easy to focus on what last year took from us. It took time with extended family, energy for our hobbies, travel plans, and weddings. In the absence of all those things I have tried to focus on how much time I have with my own family, and on time spent outdoors. As (we hope!) 2021 starts to return to us some of what we cancelled and postponed in 2020, I’m going to try to hold on to the time I regained for myself and for my family. I’m renewing my commitment to myself and what I value.
Though it was not an ideal year, it was wonderful to see so many people outside and enjoying the trails. If there’s one lasting resolution that I hope others will make, it’s to continue connecting with nature through hiking. Hiking will remain at the top of my list this year as I focus on mental, spiritual and physical wellness.
Looking back at your 2020, is there anything you want to keep? Any lessons that you think will help make 2021 a beautiful year? Is there anything you used to do for yourself that you’d like to renew your commitment to?
